Northern Lights...

After reading the story "Aurora A Tale of The Northern Lights" by Mindy Dwyer, we had a real interesting class discussion. We learned that the scientific name for the Northern Lights is Aurora Borealis. We also learned that they are streams of colored light that shimmer in the dark night sky of the earth's polar regions. We are lucky that we can go out into the country on a clear cold winter evening and have a very good chance of seeing the Northern Lights... Check out our "Aurora Borealis"...

Our e-Pals...

E-mail is a motivating tool for teaching writing because children enjoy communicating in this medium. Beginning writers find electronic communication highly engaging, and educators recognize the power of e-mail as a tool for literacy learning. Each student in our classroom has set up an e-mail account through our school e-mail provider. Students have also been partnered up with an e-pal buddy in Mrs. Martin's Grade Four class. I'm encouraging students to check their e-mail as often as possible. We have talked about composing e-mail messages, always remembering that we are sending these messages to people who have feelings, not to computers. A direct link for students to check their e-mail can be found on our school website..

We Love to Skate...

We were very lucky to have had the opportunity to go skating every Friday during the month of January. Thank you to all parent volunteers who came out and gave us a hand tying skates, and to those brave ones who donned the blades and joined us on the ice.
